A single crop cover cannot provide the optimum balance of insulation, light transmission, flexibility and durability in every crop and every season. Selecting a material only by colour or grammage may lead to a solution that does not match the actual weather risk or stage of plant development.

Lighter covers support air and light transmission and are suitable for periods when crop development is the main priority. Heavier materials offer stronger insulation in more demanding conditions. Technology also changes the material’s behaviour: Agro-Marina provides immediate water permeability, while Agroflex uses BiCo technology to offer increased elasticity and mechanical strength.

Why crop-cover selection requires more than one parameter

Grammage is one of the most visible product parameters, but it does not fully describe how a crop cover will behave in the field. The required level of insulation must be considered together with light transmission, water permeability, flexibility and durability.

Grammage and insulation

Higher-grammage covers generally provide stronger insulation and protection against cold wind. At the same time, they may transmit less light than lighter materials. The appropriate balance therefore depends on the crop, weather risk and stage of development.

The role of production technology

AGRIMPEX Agro-Marina technology provides immediate water permeability, allowing irrigation and rainfall to reach the crop directly after installation. Agroflex products use BiCo technology combining polypropylene and polyethylene fibres to provide greater elasticity and mechanical strength.

A practical selection process
