Why crop-cover selection requires more than one parameter
Grammage is one of the most visible product parameters, but it does not fully describe how a crop cover will behave in the field. The required level of insulation must be considered together with light transmission, water permeability, flexibility and durability.
Grammage and insulation
Higher-grammage covers generally provide stronger insulation and protection against cold wind. At the same time, they may transmit less light than lighter materials. The appropriate balance therefore depends on the crop, weather risk and stage of development.
The role of production technology
AGRIMPEX Agro-Marina technology provides immediate water permeability, allowing irrigation and rainfall to reach the crop directly after installation. Agroflex products use BiCo technology combining polypropylene and polyethylene fibres to provide greater elasticity and mechanical strength.
A practical selection process
Before choosing a crop cover, the user should define the main objective: frost protection, accelerated growth, mechanical protection or a combination of these functions. The final decision should also take account of the expected duration of use and the structure of the crop.
