Bio Cover Biodegradable Mulch Film

Agrimpex Bio Cover is a soil-biodegradable and compostable black mulch film designed for effective weed suppression, soil moisture conservation and improved growing conditions.

The material helps reduce water evaporation, promotes soil warming and keeps crops separated from direct contact with the ground. After the growing season, the remaining film can be incorporated into the soil, where it gradually biodegrades under suitable conditions.

Ideal for tomatoes, cucumbers, lettuce, peppers, courgettes, watermelons and other annual crops.

Product description

Biodegradable Mulch Film for Sustainable Crop Cultivation

Agrimpex Bio Cover is a soil-biodegradable and compostable mulch film designed for effective weed control, soil moisture conservation and sustainable cultivation of vegetables and other annual crops.

Developed as an alternative to conventional polyethylene mulch films, Bio Cover combines practical soil protection with the ability to biodegrade in the soil after use.

The black material blocks sunlight from reaching the soil, helping suppress weed growth and reduce competition for water and nutrients. It also helps limit moisture loss and promotes soil warming, creating favourable conditions for root development and crop growth.

Key Benefits

  • Soil-biodegradable material – designed to biodegrade in the soil after its useful life, reducing the need to remove used mulch film.
  • Compostable in soil – can be incorporated into the soil after cultivation, where it gradually undergoes biological decomposition.
  • Effective weed suppression – blocks sunlight from reaching the soil, helping reduce weed growth and the need for manual weeding.
  • Reduced water evaporation – helps conserve soil moisture and reduce irrigation requirements.
  • Promotes soil warming – the black surface absorbs solar radiation, encouraging faster soil warming and favourable root development.
  • Cleaner crops – separates developing fruit and vegetables from direct contact with the soil, helping reduce dirt contamination.
  • Supports healthy growth – helps create suitable soil conditions for plant development.
  • Suitable for annual crops – ideal for vegetables and other crops grown within a seasonal cultivation cycle.

Applications

Bio Cover is particularly suitable for vegetable gardens, allotments and horticultural cultivation involving annual plants.

Recommended crops include:

  • Tomatoes – helps maintain soil moisture and suppress weeds around plants.
  • Cucumbers – reduces weed competition and supports favourable soil conditions.
  • Lettuce – provides a protective mulching layer around growing plants.
  • Courgettes and pumpkins – helps limit soil moisture loss in crops requiring regular watering.
  • Peppers – promotes soil warming and helps reduce unwanted vegetation.
  • Watermelons and melons – suitable for mulching warm-season crops.
  • Edible flowers and other annual plants – provides practical weed control during cultivation.

Biodegradation After the Growing Season

Unlike conventional polyethylene mulch films, Bio Cover is designed to biodegrade in soil.

After the growing season, the remaining material can be incorporated into the soil, where microorganisms gradually break it down under suitable environmental conditions.

According to the manufacturer’s product information, biodegradation may occur over approximately one growing season or take up to 12–24 months, depending on soil conditions.

The material is designed to biodegrade without leaving persistent microplastic residues in the soil.

How to Use

  1. Prepare the soil by removing existing weeds, loosening the surface and levelling the planting area.
  2. Spread Bio Cover over the prepared soil, ensuring the film lies evenly on the surface.
  3. Secure the edges by covering them with soil to prevent movement caused by wind.
  4. Create planting openings at the required spacing and plant the seedlings.
  5. Where drip irrigation is used, position the irrigation lines beneath the film before installation.
  6. After harvesting, incorporate the remaining film into the soil, following the manufacturer’s guidance.
